Key Stage 1 Weekly News29 Apr 2016This week has been very exciting for KS1! We have been on our school trip to the Abbey House Museum. The children have had a wonderful time and have enjoyed learning about toys from both past and the present. We got the opportunity to play some toys from the past and even made our own stick puppets.
As part of our toy topic we have watched some of the Toy Story film, from this the children have written their own toy stories concentrating on characters and settings.
In class 1 we have begun learning about money. As part of our maths topic the children have been sorting coins and learning about their value. We have also set up our own Toy Shop which the children are extremely proud of. KS1 would also like to take the opportunity to thank parents for their generous contributions for the Toy Shops. Class 2 have been doing multiplication in their maths using 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. We have also been working in our Toy Shop, pricing up all of the toys to sell.
Class 3 have continued to master the skill of addition. We are getting much more confident at using column addition and we have even challenged ourselves to solve word problems. Mrs Hoyle has really challenged us this week too, as we have to find the missing number, using the inverse operation.
In art and DT we designed our very own toy spinners. The children enjoyed having competitions to see whose spinner would spin the longest.
Have you any old socks at home that the sock monster has eaten it’s matching partner. KS1 would really appreciate these lonely socks to recycle and give anew lease of life as a sock puppet!
