Sing Up Platinum Award Print E-mail

In June 2008 Cookridge Primary School became the first primary school in Leeds to be awarded the Sing Up platinum award. This was a national  recognition of how we place singing and music at the heart of our curriculum, and make sure that every child is given the opportunity to take part in the full range of musical activities which form part of the creative Arts curriculum we provide at out school. Having heard us, he declared that we were truly worthy of the title “ A Singing School!”

Working with our partner schools ( locally and internationally), helps us  gain an understanding of ourselves and others, it increases our knowledge of global issues and gives real purpose to our partnership work in a fun way!

We currently have partner schools in Mexico, Nigeria and South Africa. We are working with Ireland Wood and Iveson Primary schools as part of the Connecting Classrooms-Africa programme.

In addition, we welcome visitors from around the world throughout the year…from Indian teachers to children from Paraguay! We are so fortunate to have pupils from many different cultures in Cookridge Primary School and we look to them to share their knowledge and experiences with the rest of the School. This was evidenced during International Cookridge Week. All or international work involves many different subject areas… ICT, Art, Music, History and Literacy.

We also use our Mexican link to support the teaching of Spanish throughout School. Our African and Mexican colleagues have worked in school and we have had a month long visit by two Spanish student teachers and day visits from Norwegian and Indian teachers. Two of our own teachers have taught in our Mexican link school and have recently visited our partner school in Capetown, South Africa.
