Curriculum Print E-mail

The National Curriculum and the Primary Frameworks for Literacy and Numeracy are our guides to the learning and teaching that takes place at our school, providing the children with a broad and balanced curriculum.

We enhance and encourage further independent learning by being creative and innovative in identifying and organising areas of study which promote cross-curricular links and encourage children to think creatively between subjects.
  • Children learn through creative modules based around:
  • Geography (e.g. our local environment, weather and settlements)
  • History (e.g. the Romans, Victorian Britain and local history)
  • Art (e.g. collage and digital media)
  • Dance (e.g. from different cultures and modern forms)
  • Design Technology (e.g. vehicles, toys and footwear)
  • ICT (e.g. control technology, spreadsheets and video recording)
  • Music (e.g. from different times and cultures, composing and performing)

You can find more information relating to the current topics being studied by viewing the Class Newsletters which can be found on the Class Section of this website.

The school makes regular use of visiting specialist teachers, for example our Spanish teachers who are currently in school.

We believe that children should be creative and therefore our school provides a curriculum that is rich in the visual and performance arts. Subjects such as music and dance have always had a high profile at our school but for the last three years we have also been particularly committed to encouraging children to find their singing voice and acquire the language of music through the Voices Foundation programme (does this need a bit more?).

You can find more information about extra-curricular activities relating to the Arts at the Clubs section on the website.

In Spring 2008 we were presented with the Artsmark Gold which is a national award managed by Arts Council England that rewards the high level of commitment the school shows towards art, drama, dance and music and recognises the strong impact that the Arts have had on the range of curriculum activities and experiences available for our pupils.
